Elmbridge

St George’s is of 1540 and looks neat and pretty from the outside with its shingled wooden bell turret. Within it has so many outstanding wooden features:

Original roof beams. 18th century three-decker pulpit.

An old chest with a very small aperture to allow only the silver coins as decreed by Edward the Sixth to be collected for the poor.

A rare 17th century painting on wood to resemble a monument: this lady kneeling at a desk was the widow of Sir Thomas Lynch, Governor of Jamaica. He was reputed to be the first to have sent sugar from the West Indies.

Wadham Diggle (was that really his name?) was rector here for over fifty years from 1777-1828.

Most remarkable is the brick south chapel – housing a family pew divided into two with an entrance outside the church. Built for the Duke of Newcastle and his brother, both have fireplaces and high box pews for the servants.

Frequently asked questions about floor sanding

Ever wondered about restoring or sanding your wooden floors? We share the most commonly asked questions about floor sanding and restoration to give you as much useful information as possible.

Q. What services are available to care for wood floors?

A. There is a wide range of services such as wood floor renovations, restorations, repairs, staining and gap filling. There are also services such as floor and stair sanding, sealing, waxing, oiling as well as polishing and buffing. Some of these are beneficial for ongoing maintenance whereas others will be needed for treating deep scratches or severe stains.

Q. Will my home be very dusty if I sand the floor?

A. There should be very little dust created during the floor sanding process unless it is a very severe sanding that is required.

Q. How long will the effect of sanding last?

A. This really depends on how much use the floor gets, how many people are using it every day and the regular maintenance it receives. If you have a regular cleaning and maintenance plan in place, this will ensure that the effect of the sanding lasts longer. After five years, it will probably need some additional care.

Q. Can you get out deep scratches of bad stains?

A. Yes. It is possible to remove deep scratches or even severe stains. One of the most difficult stains to remove is from pets as the ammonia in urine can cause wood to discolour.

Q. How long do floor stains take to dry?

A. It takes approximately eight hours, however, some people prefer to leave their floors overnight after treatment.

Q. What effect will waxing have?

A. Waxing is a beautiful way to bring a natural look to your floor. It is based on natural vegetable oils and waxes and brings out the inherent colour of the timber. It doesn’t flake, peel or blister.

Q. What effect will oiling have?

A. Oiling is organic and like waxing leaves a natural finish on your floor. It is water-repellant and resistant to scuffs and abrasion.

Q. How can I get in touch with The Floor Sanding Co. to find out more?

A. You can request a callback
